Jo’Anne Kelly graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba and pursued further studies in ceramics and printmaking at the Ontario College of Art. Her work has been shown in numerous one person and group exhibitions across Canada and England and is in collections in Canada, England, the U.S. and Switzerland.
In addition to painting and ceramics, Jo’Anne has dyed and painted costumes for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and has illustrated children’s books.
She produces a wide range of hand painted silk pieces from scarves and clothing to large wall pieces that take full advantage of the shimmering and intense colours possible in a dyed silk surface.
Her work in clay emphasizes the delicacy of thin-walled pieces. Her porcelain celebrates translucency and subtle colouration achieved through multiple firings of many layers of glaze, under- and over-glazes, lustres and precious metal highlights. Her work often includes the whimsical and mythic.
Lately, Jo’Anne has begun to return to a former interest: jewellery-making, utilizing silver and precious gemstones.
